Born and raised in a tiny town in northwestern Connecticut, Jim Lawson knew a few things. Those were that he loved comics and that a pencil felt good in his hands. Beyond that, he knew that he wanted to become an artist and that he had the hopeful, yet somewhat unrealistic goal for himself to make a living drawing pictures and telling stories.
After he graduated art school, a fortunate series of events came together, and that odd confluence led him to be introduced to the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. That strange event was the beginning of Jim’s career in comics, which now has spanned nearly 35 amazing years- 25 of them with Mirage Studios as a writer and artist on the original black and white Turtle comic.
Since the end of his employment with Mirage, and the transferral to Viacom of ownership of the TMNTs, Jim has pursued a solo freelance career. His many self-published works include, Paleo: Tales of the Late Cretaceous, A Walk Through Dinosaurland, Dragonfly, Dinosaur Head Cat and Jim Lawson’s Dinosaurs Coloring Book. Also included in Jim’s long list of credits are the recent Hellride and The Box City Wallops.
Jim is currently working on his new comic, A Sordid Land.
